SOTS_IN_FLOOD_BAND_01SCAR OF THE SUN is a modern metal band, influenced by Killswitch Engage, Soilwork and Katatonia. The band was formed in 2005 in London, UK. With their first release ‘A Series Of Unfortunate Concurrencies’ SCAR OF THE SUN has successfully toured Europe three times with the likes of Dark Tranquillity, Moonspell, Pain, Rage, Tyr and are currently about to release their sophomore effort ‘In Flood’ on the 20th of May 2016.

A Series Of Unfortunate Concurrencies

The debut album entitled ‘A Series Of Unfortunate Concurrencies’ contains guest appearances by Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquillity), Bob Katsionis (Firewind, Serious Black, OutLoud), Marios Iliopoulos (Nightrage), Chris Antoniou (Septic Flesh) and Leah Randi (Conjure One).

The band’s first promo material was released in 2006 as was ‘Demo of the month’ in the Greek Metal Hammer. Shortly after, the band entered the Wave Studios in Athens, Greece, to record the full album. SOTS hired high-profile producer Rhys Fulber (Paradise Lost, Fear Factory, Machine Head, etc) to co-produce and mix the album. The mastering duties were taken over by Greg Reely (Coldplay, The Tea Party, Strapping Young Lad, etc).

The album sound is multi-dimensional, blending many elements and influences, from gothic and doom atmospheres to modern electronic samples, from symphonic arrangements to the Swedish sound, with a touch of progressive structures and lots of heaviness and drama, all contributing to SOTS’ unique sound.

The Videos

The band shot two videos with famous director/animator/designer Achilleas Gatsopoulos (video artwork and props for Pet Shop Boys, Dark Tranquillity, Steven Wilson, etc), shot and edited by Bob Katsionis (Firewind), for the songs ‘Swansong Of Senses’ and ‘Disciple Of The Sun’.

After a series of very successful live appearances both in Greece and in Europe alongside bands like Pain Of Salvation, Dark Tranquillity, Paradise Lost, Firewind etc and a slot in Greece’s biggest summer festival ‘Rockwave Festival’ next to Slipknot, Mastodon, Down and many others, SOTS signed a deal with Italian record label Scarlet Records and the debut album was released worldwide in June 2011.

For the release of the album, the band toured Europe three times between 2010 and 2012: the “Where Death Is Most Alive tour with Dark Tranquillity and Insomnium, the Metal Firestorm tour with Rage, Tyr and Communic and the Into Darkness tour with Pain, Moonspell, Swallow The Sun and Lake Of Tears a few months later.

In Flood

The sophomore album entitled In Flood containes guest apperances by Bob Katsionis (Firewind, Serious Black, OutLoud) once again, George Katsanos (solo artist), Nick Syd (Cyanna Mercury), Van Labrakis (Paul Oakenfold, Armin Van Buuren, etc).

The band recorded their second album at their own Zero Gravity Studios, where singer Terry Nikas engineered the whole project. For the production the band hired Rhys Fulber once again and the mixing and mastering was handled by the up and coming duoStamos Koliousis and Van Lambrakis of Studios 210 in Berlin (Keep Of  Kalessin, Kvelertak, Satan’s Wrath).

SCAR OF THE SUN’s sound has matured and has become more focused, modern, heavier and more aggressive but also more catchy, reflecting elements of In Flames or Trivium. “In Flood” will be released worldwide by Scarlet Records on the 20th of May 2016. The first European tour in its support is currently under scheadule. More than ever, SOTS are ready to head out on the road and play its music for the masses!
