SCAR OF THE SUN is a Modern Metal band from Athens, Greece. Formed in London in the late ‘00s as a Modern Atmospheric Metal outfit, they progressively evolved and distilled their sound into an eclectic mix of Metalcore and Djent. After releasing their highly successful first two albums (‘A Series Of Unfortunate Concurrencies’ and ‘In Flood’) via Scarlet Records, SCAR OF THE SUN landed a multi album deal with the Austrian powerhouse Napalm Records, releasing their third album ‘Inertia’ in May 2021.
The first two albums enjoyed significant success, especially the sophomore “In Flood”, which in addition to gathering rave reviews, received extensive radio play and became very popular on Spotify. SCAR OF THE SUN have worked with high profile Canadian producer Rhys Fulber (Fear Factory, Paradise Lost, Machine Head) on both albums which also feature guest appearances by M. Stanne (Dark Tranquillity), C. Antoniou (Septic Flesh), B. Katsionis (Firewind, Serious Black), M. Iliopoulos (Nightrage) and Van Labrakis (Armin Van Buuren, Paul Oakenfold).
In order to promote “A Series Of Unfortunate Concurrencies”, the band shot two videos for the songs “Swansong Of Senses” and “Disciple Of The Sun”. The band worked with famous director/animator/designer Achilleas Gatsopoulos (video artwork and props for Pet Shop Boys, Dark Tranquillity, Steven Wilson, etc), shot and edited by Bob Katsionis (Firewind).
For the album “In Flood” the band worked once again with director Achilleas Gatsopoulos for the shooting of two videos for the songs “Among Waters And Giants” and “An Ill-Fated Wonder” (the second one was edited by Bob Katsionis once again), with ‘Among Waters And Giants’ hitting more than 200.000 views on YouTube.
LIVE & TOURS
After a series of very successful live appearances both in Greece and in Europe alongside bands like Pain Of Salvation, Dark Tranquillity, Paradise Lost, Firewind etc and a slot in Greece’s biggest summer festival “Rockwave Festival” next to Slipknot, Mastodon, Down and many others, the band start touring all over Europe and the UK.
SOTS were part of the the “Where Death Is Most Alive” tour with Dark Tranquillity and Insomnium, the “Metal Firestorm” tour with Rage, Tyr and Communic and the “Into Darkness” tour with Pain, Moonspell, Swallow The Sun and Lake Of Tears a few months later.
In addition, the band toured Europe and the U.K. for the first time with Firewind and Manimal, on their most successful tour so far. The band established a strong following that is expecting more than ever the new material that will land very soon.
INERTIA
In May 2021 SCAR OF THE SUN released their third full-length effort entitled “Inertia” recorded at their very own Zero Gravity Studios in Athens, Greece. The new album was mixed by the band’s singer Terry Nikas (Septic Flesh, Nightrage, Suicidal Angels) and was mastered by Jens Bogren (Amorphis, Opeth, Katatonia, Kreator). This album is their heaviest and most aggressive effort to date, expanding Terry Nikas’ versatile vocal arsenal and incorporating the most brutal vocals the band ever used.
“Inertia” took the world by storm, receiving rave reviews all around. At the same time, the band enjoyed huge media exposure, making it the most successful album overall in the history of SCAR OF THE SUN. The band released 4 videos/singles in support of “Inertia”, once again directed by Achilleas Gatsopoulos, expanding on the band’s signature visual identity and surpassing everything the band did in the past creatively. The groundbreaking mixed media music video for “Inertia” did the festival rounds, picking up official selections and awards along the way.
It is more than obvious that SCAR OF THE SUN sculpted their complete own sound that has evolved tremendously in regards to their debut, without changing the unique character of the band.
